Is Boruto Next Generation finished? ›

The series finished its first part with episode 293 on 26 March 2023; a second part was announced to be in development.

Boruto's first chapter started with a flash-forward showing the title character with a scar over one eye, naturally leading many fans to wonder what the explanation for the wound was. Unsurprisingly, it turns out that Boruto got his scar from Kawaki, but he did so while trying to save a person very dear to him.

The decision to end the first season of Boruto when it did is surprising may be surprising from a story perspective, but Studio Pierrot was clearly overworked, which was impacting the anime quite negatively.

For one, the finale confirms Kawaki really did kill Boruto during their fight, but Naruto's oldest son is not about to be beaten so easily. Rather than passing away, Boruto lives another day thanks to Momoshiki Otsutsuki. The man sacrifices part of the Karma seal to revive Boruto, but it comes at a cost.
