Home Midsize SUV Crossover Jeep Says Goodbye to V8-Powered Wrangler With Final Edition

The Jeep Wrangler has a long and storied history. The Hemi V8 engine also has a long and storied history. For a brief time, they intersected. But it’s almost over.
Apparently, Jeep will soon stop building Wrangler models with Hemi engines. The Wrangler Rubicon 392 has brought the two legends together since its 2021 birth, albeit at an eye-popping price. The 2024 Wrangler Rubicon 392 starts at $93,440 (including the mandatory $1,895 destination charge).
You could get 2.4 base-model Wrangler Sport 4-doors for that price.
Jeep hasn’t made an official announcement yet. But the company posted a photo to Instagram featuring a “Rubicon 392 Final Edition” plaque.
We don’t know how many Final Edition models Jeep plans to build. But Motor Trend reports that Jeep recently sent dealers a bulletin promising to award one 392 to each dealership that beat January 2023’s sales numbers this January. One. That suggests the last V8-powered Wrangler may be rare and subject to dealer markups.
As of this writing, you can still configure a 2024 Wrangler Rubicon 392 on Jeep’s website.
The Hemi Is Disappearing
It’s not shocking news. Jeep has also removed V8 options from its Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer full-size SUVs. That leaves the 3-row Grand Cherokee L as the last Jeep product carrying a V8 engine.
The engine’s days seem to be numbered. Ram has also dropped the Hemi from its 2025 truck lineup. Dodge, meanwhile, has canceled its Challenger and Charger cars altogether, though it’s temporarily offering discounts on the last Hemi-equipped models on dealer lots. The company has also announced a series of Last Call Durango SUVs equipped with V8s.
