The Best Pears for Cooking
You can use any variety of pears that you have on hand. These pears are great options because they hold up well with cooking and won’t brown as quickly when they are sliced.
- D’Anjou pears ( red or green)
- Bosc
- Bartlette
- Avoid comice pears which tend to fall apart with cooking
How to Prepare Baked Pears
- Make Topping – In a bowl, combine all of your topping ingredients and stir to combine.
- Cut Pears – Slice pears in half from the stem to the base. Scoop out the centers (a melon baller makes this easy), and cut a slice off the back of each pear so they sit steady in the pan.
- Stuff Pears – Place pears with the skin-side down in a 9×13 casserole dish. Divide the topping evenly between the pears. Sprinkle with cinnamon and bake at 375˚F for 25-30 minutes until tender.
Pro Tip: Cutting a slice from the back of the pear gives them a flat surface to sit on. This keeps the pears steady in the pan without rolling around or having the toppings spill out.

Common Questions:
Can I use instant oats?
We recommend using rolled oats in this recipe, which are often called “old-fashioned oats.” Instant or quick-cooking oats won’t have the same great texture and may seem a little mushy.
Can I Substitute pecans?
You can substitute pecans with walnuts, or leave the nuts out completely.
Can I Make this in the air fryer?
As a general rule of thumb, you can convert from the oven to an air fryer by reducing the heat by 25˚F to 50˚F and reducing the bake time by about half. Air fry until pears are tender.

To Serve
- Dessert – place a pear half on a dessert plate and drizzle with maple syrup, or you can pair a baked pear with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream.
- Breakfast – add your favorite Greek yogurt to a bowl, drizzle with maple syrup then place a pear over the yogurt and drizzle with more maple syrup. You can also slice the warm pear before adding to yogurt.

Baked Pears stuffed with buttery oats, walnuts, cranberries and cinnamon. Pears baked in the oven become meltingly tender and baking really amplifies the natural sweetness and flavor of pears. Serve baked pears for breakfast with yogurt drizzled with maple syrup, or for dessert topped with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
Prep Time: 10 minutes mins
Cook Time: 25 minutes mins
Total Time: 35 minutes mins
Ingredients
Servings: 8 stuffed pear halves
- 4 medium pears, Bartlette, Anjou or Bosc
- 1/4 cup rolled oats, not instant oats
- 1/4 cup pecans, or walnuts, coarsely chopped
- 1/4 cup dried cranberries, coarsely chopped (optional)
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon, plus more to sprinkle
- 2 Tbsp real maple syrup
- 2 Tbsp unsalted butter, melted, plus more to grease pan
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 375˚F with a rack in the center of the oven. Butter the bottom of a 9×13 casserole dish.
In a small bowl, combine the filling ingredients: rolled oats, pecans, cranberries, and cinnamon. Drizzle with maple syrup and melted butter and stir to combine.
Cut pears in half lengthwise. Scoop out the seeds with a teaspoon or melon baller. Cut a thin slice of pear from the back of each half resulting in a flat surface for the pear to lay on without rolling.
Arrange pears in the buttered casserole dish and divide the filling evenly between pears. Lightly sprinkle cinnamon over pears.
Bake uncovered at 375˚F for 25-30 minutes (depending on size and firmness of the pears), baking until pears are tender.
