Complete (Full) Dentures

Complete dentures are an excellent option for replacing all of the natural teeth following dental extractions. At Commonwealth Smiles, our goal for dentures in Lexington, KY are to give the patient a beautiful, natural new smile; restore the ability to enjoy eating and chewing foods; and restore confidence in speaking and phonetics.

Full Dentures

  • Beautiful, natural smile
  • Chew, eat, and enjoy food
  • Confidence in speaking

A properly made complete denture should go completely unnoticed. In fact, most of your family and friends will never realize that you are wearing complete dentures. The denture can be made to match the color, shape, and arrangement of your natural teeth, giving a very natural smile and appearance. Your smile will look natural, and not fake. Our high quality denture teeth are selected specifically to match your facial profile, and the teeth have the same translucent shading of natural teeth. Chewing and eating food with complete dentures is just as important. A properly fit denture with plenty of bone support will not fall out while eating or chewing, although getting used to balancing the denture while chewing does take a few weeks.

Finally a complete denture is crafted to prevent any awkward “hissing” or “sshhing” lisp sounds. When making your denture, we make several intraoral measurements to replicate exactly the position of where your natural teeth would be. Properly placed denture teeth will restore all ability to speak normally.

Complete dentures last anywhere between five and ten years, and it is important to return for regular revaluations and adjustments.

Partial Dentures

Partial dentures are an excellent option for replacing several of missing natural teeth when there are still many natural teeth remaining in the dental arch. At Commonwealth Smiles in Lexington, KY, partial dentures are great for patients who want a conservative treatment for missing teeth, excellent denture retention, and no surgeries for dental implants.

Partial Dentures

  • Conservative treatment
  • Excellent retention
  • No implant surgery

A partial denture is a conservative treatment because it does not require extraction of all the natural teeth, as is the case with complete or full dentures. Many patients who are missing several or all of their posterior or back teeth find the partial denture an excellent choice. They still have the same smile of natural teeth, but with the added support of back teeth for chewing and grinding food.

Partial dentures have excellent retention and snap into place around the natural teeth. Unlike lower complete dentures that sometimes “float” in the mouth or require practice in getting used to, partial dentures stay in place, making them a great denture solution.

While dental implants are also a way for added retention for complete dentures, with partial dentures, no dental implants are needed as the existing natural teeth are enough to ensure that the denture stays in place all the time.

Please come to our office in Lexington, KY to discuss if partial dentures are the right option for you.

Implant Retained Dentures

Implant retained dentures are a superior solution for patients missing all teeth, but wanting additional retention on their denture. Implant retained dentures “click in and stay in” by locking into dental implants that have been placed in the jaw bone. This treatment requires the placement of dental implants which is a minor and routine surgery. In Lexington, KY implant dentures are changing the way patients with missing teeth eat, smile, and speak.

Implant Retained Dentures

  • Click In and Stay In
  • Minor Surgery
  • Eat. Smile. Speak.

A common complaint of traditional complete dentures is retention, or getting used to keeping the dentures in place. While most traditional maxillary or upper dentures stay in place without the need for any denture adhesive, the traditional complete lower denture usually requires additional effort on behalf of the patient. This is no longer a concern for patients with implant retained complete dentures. The dentures still look the same as traditional complete dentures, except that they click in place on top of dental implants that have been placed in the jaw.

Dental implants are artificial replacements for missing teeth that look like anchors or screws. Often, they are made from titanium or other materials that are bio-compatible and well suited for placement into your supporting jaw bone. The dental implant is surgically placed into your bone, integrates and becomes one with your jaw. This treatment is minimally invasive and is considered a very minor or routine surgery. With dental implants in place, the complete dentures are made to snap on top for a perfect fit.

Finally with an implant retained complete denture, you will have no problems doing the things you love. You will be eating and enjoying your food, speaking with confidence, and smiling like never before. Your family and friends will notice your confidence, but not your dentures!

Denture Repairs and Relines

Regardless of whether or not your denture was made in Lexington, KY at Commonwealth Smiles, if it needs adjustments, repairs, or a reline, we are ready to help. Many denture repairs are simple and can be done while you wait, while others require reprocessing at our dental lab. It is always best to leave the repairs to a dentist as opposed to attempting to repair the dentures on your own because the smallest adjustments can cause dramatic changes to the denture’s fit retention, and support.
Besides denture repairs for bent or broken dentures, denture relines serve to enhance the fit of your denture to compensate for adjustments in your jaw bone and tissues.

Dentures of all types (complete dentures, partial dentures, or implant retained dentures) require regular maintenance and adjustments to ensure proper fit, retention, and support, so it is important to return for evaluation at least annually.

Broken dentures require urgent repairs, so please call today for an appointment today. We are happy to repair any dentures in Lexington, KY area, and often we can do so while you wait.

Dr. Kress says
Your dentures are too valuable to risk damaging with do-it-yourself repairs. Regardless of where your denture was made, we are happy to repair your denture.
