Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey - Crafting Guide (Tips, Tricks, & Strategies) (5)

Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey is a game focusing on the evolution of the human race. Starting out as a primitive primate, players can craft tools, increase their population, and develop as a community. The primary goal of the game is to fuel evolution by generating neural energy and to survive against the elements and enemies around the player’s settlement. Like our own development, the progress of the community is fueled by necessity and the will to outlive their opponents.

Using tools to process food or other objects makes crafting run much quicker and will give the player more benefits; by either making food more potent and increasing its bonus or by making weapons that can be used to hunt or defend the player’s family. Players can start the process with the first tools they can find: their hands and rocks. From there, the possibilities will branch out as more resources are discovered and more tools are possible to make. As this is a primitive world, there is no crafting table, so players will need to slowly build their primitive society piece by piece. Tools will also help the player and their family evolve, as they will develop more neural pathways.

How to Craft in Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey

Looting

  • There are many resources that will be located around the starting area. Players will be able to find branches, grass, and granite rock spread generously throughout the area. There will be a darker wall that has obsidian rock near it, and players can climb vines to reach a location with basalt rock. It will appear as a large, egg-shaped rock.

Stacking

  • Items can be stacked by placing them on the ground on top of each other. This is helpful if players need to craft something with multiple objects, as the starting humans have no inventories or pockets. Once these items are stacked, players can start to craft them.

Altering

  • To alter an item, players will need to hold the tool in their right hand and the object they want altered in their left. Then, they will have to hold a button down to alter it and time the release properly. If they hold onto the button for too long, the object being altered could break. This is a big problem if the player has gotten a hold of a rarer resource. They can also examine the object after crafting it to develop neural pathways and learn more about it.

What to Craft First in Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey

Bed

  • Beds can be used to evolve and equip traits. Players can stack grass and craft them into a bed for sleeping. Sleeping is a very important part of the game. Beds are also very important for mating, which will continue the game. If there are no new babies, the line ends there. Beds can also be used to start a new settlement.

Weapon

  • At the beginning of the game, players can collect branches to use as weapons. Players can also alter branches to pull twigs off of them to make a stick. Players can hold obsidian, basalt, or granite rock to sharpen a stick. Using the sharpened stick in a body of water will also allow players to fish.

Basalt Chopper

  • A basalt chopper is an item that makes sharpening different objects much faster. Find a piece of basalt and alter it with another piece of basalt. Using this on a branch will sharpen it at least twice as fast. The chopper will also come in handy if a player has killed an animal using their sharpened stick. It can be used to butcher an animal.

Grinder

  • Players can make a grinder by altering a granite rock with another. This will allow them to make pastes out of plants, to be used for medicine or other purposes.

Obsidian Scraper

  • Players can make an obsidian scraper by altering an obsidian rock with another. This will make it much easier to scrape objects than it is to do it by hand.

Coconut Milk

  • Coconut milk is an important resource. If a player has eaten red berries to heal an injury, there is a chance that they may eat too many and be poisoned. If this happens, climb to the top of a coconut tree to harvest coconuts, and then bring it back down to alter it with a rock or chopper. Now, its milk can be drunk, and the player will be healed.

Horsetail Paste

  • If a player is bleeding, they can make medicine out of Horsetail plants, located along the water source. Players can alter the plant using their hands, and then further using a grinder. They can then apply it to their bodies. This will either stop their bleeding or make them resistant to bleeding for a time. Horsetail can also be eaten without processing it, but it has less of an effect.

Grinded Khat

  • There is another area up above the starting home that has a large tree leading up to it. Climb up the tree and look behind it to find a plant with red leaves. It can be milled using the grinder as well. This will make Grinded Khat, a new food source. It will protect the player from cold and broken bones.

Grass Stem

  • Take the same grass that was used to build the bed, and alter it. The player will be left with a grass stem. After this step, they can use the stem to gather honey. This will give the settlement another food source and will make it easier for them to survive.

Players can now build primitive tools, process food, and heal themselves using the information from this guide.
